About Us

Genesis Networks Inc. (GNI) is wholly owned and operated by Greg and Lynette Kroeker, of Riverside, Manitoba. Seeing the need for a local computer support services provider to assist area businesses with their growing IT (Information Technology) needs, Greg started GNI in August of 2001. It quickly became obvious that broadband Internet service was an absolute necessity in the area, not only to facilitate GNI's own ability to provide timely IT services to it's customers, but to GNI's enterprise clients themselves. In the fall of 2001, he undertook an extensive research project to find out what it would take to get high speed Web access for GNI and by extension, for the communities of Riverside and Rosenort. Analog modem multi-linking, DSL (Digital Subscriber Line), cable, one-way satellite and two-way satellite technologies were all alternately explored, then discarded as being either too slow, expensive, unreliable, or simply not scheduled for installation in the area due to the sparse population density and extremely high infrastructure installation costs.

In early spring of 2002, wireless (RF) technology came to Greg's attention, and much research, planning and strategic partnering later, high speed wireless Internet service became a reality in the Rosenort area in June of that year! Unlike some other wireless ISP's at the time, GNI was able to get off the ground financially with absolutely no government grant money; it was personal savings, additional outside financing, sweat equity and the support of local businesses that made this project a reality! As expected, there were some initial hiccups, as there are with any new system, but with the help of very capable engineers and consultants, high speed and reliable Internet connectivity became the norm. Another Internet base station was added near Domain in 2004, providing customers in that area with the benefits of high speed as well. In the spring of 2006 and again in the spring of 2008, we "lit up" several more areas with Internet service, and undertook extensive equipment upgrades and network changes in order to continue providing reliable services. Last of all, and most importantly, wide-scale support in the form of customer sign-ups for our Internet services have come from, and continue to come from enterprises, small businesses and home users throughout our coverage area. We could not have done it without you. To all of our customers and clients, we say 'thank you'!

The upshot of all this modern infrastructure is that it has essentially brought the towns and surrounding areas within our coverage area up to the same standards of digital connectivity as our city-dwelling friends. From the perspective of the local commercial entities, who are becoming increasingly reliant on Internet technologies for communicating with suppliers and customers, it has leveled the playing field with competitors who have been enjoying the advantages of high speed connectivity for several years already. From the perspective of the average residential Internet user, it has provided a high speed alternative to dial-up which does not make use of telephone lines at all, eliminating the problem of tying up a phone line while on-line. From a community population retention and growth perspective, having high speed Internet services makes it more attractive for businesses or individuals to stay or relocate here!

As we look toward the future, GNI plans to continue providing our valued current and future customers with reliable high speed Internet services as well as excellent IT technical support services to the business community!
